A man devoted his life to the violin making craft

Maestro Plamen Milcev is born in 1966 in the town of Kazanlak, Bulgaria - a town that has been the luthier center of the Balkan Peninsula for more than a century. Driven by his artistic nature, Mr. Milcev has studied the Professional High School of Fine Arts in the town of Triavna, Bulgaria, which he graduated in 1985 with 2 special honors. In 1990 he dedicated his artistic skills to the craft of violin-making and established his own workshop. In the period 1999 - 2002 he was elected vice-president of the Bulgarian Luthiers Assiciation. Striving to add even more value to his work and seeking inspiration from the roots of the luthiers art, Plamen Milcev resumed his education in Instituto Professionale di Luiteria A. Stradivari, Cremona, Italy, which he graduated in 2005. The same year he specialized repairing bows for instruments of the violin family. In 2003 Маестро Milcev accepted the invitation of Maestro Riccardo Bergonzi for joint collaboration in his workshop. The Measto Bergonzi multi-artistic personlity has enriched the stylistics of Plamen Milcev's future art craft. This collaboration redound to the wide experience in the field of repair, restauration and acoustic setting. Without grading, Maestro Milcev also highly appreciates the close creative contacts with Maestro Luca Pasquetto on couple of luthier’s projects.

Maestro Plamen Milcev’s profound work and rich experience lead to numerous prize recognitions for his violin making artworks, the followings:

1997 – 9th  ranking place for violin – 8th Triennale Internazionale A.Stradivari, Cremona, Italy

2008 – 2nd prize and silver medal for viola - Concorso Nazionale Di Liuteria, Pisogne, Italy

2009 – 1st prize and golden medal for violoncello - Concorso Internazionale Di Liuteria, Pisogne, Italy

2009 – 3rd prize and bronze medal for violin - Concorso Internazionale Di Liuteria, Pisogne, Italy

2012 -  4th ranking place at the Grand Final and Menzione D'Onore for violoncello – 13th Triennale Internazionale Di Liuteria, Cremona, Italy

2014 – the special A.N.L.A.I. prize for accoustics for violoncello - Concorso Internazionale Di Liuteria, Pisogne, Italy

2016 – 2nd  prize and silver medal for violoncello "FELIX" - Concorso Internazionale Santa Cecilia, Rome, Italy

 

Maestro Milcev also took part in numerous luthiers shows and exhibitions.

He is presently the chairman of the managing board of the Bulgarian Luthiers Association.
